The need for social distancing and staying at home has had a significant impact on the way we communicate with one another. As everyone knows that we, in the Middle East, prefer to communicate face-to-face to facilitate things, this is our nature. But by working and studying from home, and the commitment of the vast majority to stay at home, our habit has become facing a new challenge, which is adapting to social distancing. As usual, technology comes at the assistance and service of human beings and this time it represented in the conversations, communications and video meetings that reduced the sense of isolation among those who used these technologies. As is known to everyone, these techniques were closed to us and the majority of people did not realize the impact and the many benefits of such video communication, whether at work or among family and friends.
The Percentage of feeling with real communication
Today, many groups of people use these technologies in meetings between employees, family, and friends. The percentage of feeling, according to the poll on Twitter in which 522 people participated, when using video communication, whether with an individual or a group, gives them a feeling of happiness and compensation for attendance. Their division was as follows: 19% chose from 30% to 50% feeling of communication, 17% of them chose from 50% to 70% feeling of communication, 18% of them chose more than 70% feeling of communication, while the others in the twitter poll, who accounted for 46%, their feeling was less than 20%.
There is no doubt that by providing space for such techniques, we have discovered that they are a necessity for all because of their various advantage and benefits. These benefits include setting up videoconferences between officials and employees, creating lectures, video lessons, distance education, attending seminars and exercises remotely, as well as creating a smart work environment that can also work remotely as is currently the case with the vast majority. Among these benefits also creating new jobs in the labor market such as call centers “from home”, and many other advantages and benefits that are difficult to be collected in full newspaper pages.
The inevitable development of technologies
Human, by his very nature, tends to develop, improve himself, seek solutions and use the best. We, in the Emirates, have the greatest challenge that always exists, by the grace of Allah. It is the challenge of number one, which was running in our elders’ veins and we after them as we always aspire to be at the forefront. Among the most important keys to the forefront is the key to visual communication, which opens up horizons that were closed to us, and now we experience it in all our daily moments, at work, with family and friends, in self-development, continuous learning, and skills development plus many other things.
Renaissance of applications and transformation
There is no doubt that many of those who did not like this feeling had their own reasons, and many of them did not use these technologies at all and even do not know how to do this because most of the available applications are directed to businesses in general. As for the easy applications, some of them, and perhaps the most important ones, are still closed, such as Apple FaceTime, Google Duo, WhatsApp, and others. As for business applications, because tens of millions log on them in less than a week, they had no choice but to develop their applications quickly, cover all shortcomings and security vulnerabilities and add features one after another. Fierce competition has begun among them, copying features, developing performance and facilitating use, even Google got up from its coma and started developing its Hangout app, but changed its name to Google Meet to show the world that this app belongs to it.
Widespread and used applications
In another poll on my Twitter account for users of these applications, in which 702 people participated and the question was specifically, which applications do you use to talk to your family and friends these days? The surprise was as follows: 10% use Microsoft Team, 24% use Zoom, and 5% use Google Hangouts while the rest (62%) expressed that they do not use video communication applications for one reason or another. Other twitterers have mentioned names for other applications they use such as TikTok and Skype.
A lot of gossip on zoom
Recently, there has been a lot of talk about Zoom and that there are many hacks and security vulnerabilities in its systems. But we assure people that most of these observations have been already compiled and that the security has been also enhanced much. For the record, there is no system or application that is 100% secure, and the security vulnerabilities are present in each application. The most important point is how quickly the company responds to the update and development and this is exactly what we saw with Zoom, the leading company in this field.
Desire, need and hope
We ask service providers to come up with a solution to provide packages that serve this type of communication, develop systems in cooperation with major companies, use protocols and open source applications to provide similar solutions, even better than existing ones, compete for number one and have self-sufficiency in services.
